Item Description
9.5x11.5" newsprint parlor magazine Vol. 7, No. 5 w/42 pages published in May, 1870. Contents include numerous engravings and articles as well as fashion ads and sheet music. Highlight of issue is easily the three-pages devoted to an illustrated publication of Edgar Allan Poe's narrative poem first published in Jan., 1845. The poem is often noted for its musicality, stylized language, and supernatural atmosphere. It tells of a talking raven's mysterious visit to a distraught lover, tracing the man's slow descent into madness. Included are 18 accompanying illustrations. Magazine shows obvious wear w/splits along most of spine and heavy dust soiling and scattered wear to cover. Just Good w/clean, Fine contents. Early and historic Poe publication.
