Item Description
Ornate 7-7/8x10x1-3/8" deep wooden frame w/plexiglass holds board that has 2.5x4-1/8" carte de visite attached via archival tape strip. CDV has Bridgeport, CT. photographer's studio stamp on reverse and shows General Tom Thumb, the stage name of Charles Sherwood Stratton (Jan. 4, 1838 – July 15, 1883), a little person who achieved great fame under circus pioneer P.T. Barnum. Thumb stood 3'4" tall and weighed 71 lbs. at the time of his death. CDV shows Thumb w/his wife Lavinia c. 1882, the year before he died. Display includes 3.5" wide cloth patterned bowtie personally owned and worn by Thumb. Lightly aged and VF. The bowtie was originally obtained via the Deep River Historical Society before ending up w/our consignor. An unique display.
