Item Description
1.5" in brass with pair of rings at top. Shown is a wreath surrounding rack of ball, crossed cue sticks and an individual 3-D round cue ball. Tiny loss of luster within the left recessed segment but quite minor. Back of the piece reads in hand engraving "Kemper Bocock Memorial/T.F. Sullivan." Reverse includes maker's mark "Edwards & Zanner Co. Wash. D.C." "Sullivan" is the name of the person who won the item. The organization name has this background. Marguerite Lammot Du Pont Lee resided in D.C. and became active in settlement house work in 1898. She built the Kemper Bocock Memorial in Georgetown. It provided housekeeping and cooking classes for young woman and a kindergarten plus mother's club. It was also the site of Washington Boys' Club Association which gave young men a nightly alternative to saloons. The club had a pool room, bowling alley and gym. Mrs. Lee lectured on capital and labor, Prohibition, Women's Suffrage and religion. Pierre S. Du Pont contributed to her work. A unique award from 1913-14.
