Item Description
Each is 15/16", holed as made, of brass. First is DeWitt/Sullivan MVB1840-9 showing Van Buren on the front with his name and date of birth. Reverse depicts a scale with the balance in favor of the "Democrats" over the "Whigs." Surrounding slogan is "Weighed In The Balance & Found Wanting." Second is DeWitt/Sullivan 1844-36 with portray of Clay on the front along with his date of birth and the slogan "The Ashland Farmer." Reverse is same design as preceding but on this the "Whigs" outweigh the "Democrats." The date "1840" remains on the reverse although the piece was issued in "1844" as dated on the obverse.
