Item Description
First is 6-7/8x10" September 1916 issue of "Motion Picture" with Francis X. Bushman cover. Contains five page story based on Chaplin film "The Vagabond" with four different photos of Chaplin. Next is 9-1/8x12" French anti-war publication with 16 pages from March 22, 1917 "La Baionnette" with great caricature image of Chaplin in his Little Tramp persona on front cover with French text loosely translates to "Charlie War Correspondent". Chaplin is featured throughout, often with sledgehammer. Centerfold depicts a grotesque Chaplin wearing his signature bowler hat with imperial German spike coming out of the top. Back cover shows angry Keiser Wilhelm holding a copy of this magazine. Next is 6-1/8x9.5" issue of French "Cinemagazine" for March 4-10, 1921. Chaplin is on front cover and in five page article illustrated with photos on inside. Next is 9-3/8x13-3/8" issue of French "Cine-Miroir" for March 2, 1928 with Chaplin front cover and centerfold illustrated with numerous photos. Traces of lt. handling wear with some lt. dust soil, most noticeable on motion picture magazine, which is Fine. Rest of group is VF/Exc. Some wonderful Chaplin images, including the very scarce "La Baionnette" issue. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
