Item Description
This item is shown as Hake #168, although the book example is missing the ribbon. The 2004 Hake Guide value is $452. Bar pin is large cello in brass frame 2-7/8" across with link brass chain suspending 1.75" sepia celluloid with tin covered reverse tabbed into a 2" dia. twisted rope design brass frame. Item is backed by 4" ribbon which has small area of wear at top center caused by contact with the edge of the bar pin. The celluloid jugate matches the lithographed 9.5" tin plate shown on the back cover of Hake's Political Buttons Book III 1786-1916. Republican candidates from Fremont on are shown around the border and text panel reads "Grand Old Party/1856-1908/Standard Bearers." The celluloid is NM displaying Mint. See item #61, a 1909 related inaugural tip tray. Rare.
