Item Description
Issued by Wheaties in 1942 and capitalizing on the theme of a world at war, this piece is designed as an aviator’s miniature bombsight. The piece is about 2.5” tall by 3.5” long by 1.25” thick. It is constructed entirely of wood with wrap-around paper label showing 5 dials and gauges. On the bottom of the piece a round wood cover keeps 3 red wood bombs on the interior until the target is sighted. This is done by looking in the viewing tube and lining up some object in the crosshairs and then moving the round wooden cover to release a bomb. Issued with ship paper targets to be cut from paper folder 4x18" long with 15 cut-outs comprised of: Destroyer (3)/Battleship (2)/Submarine (3)/Aircraft Carrier (1)/Heavy Cruiser (1)/Oil Tanker (2)/Merchant Man (3). Folder has .5" tear and lt. wear but uncut. Mailer complete except one interior flap. Bombsight and all three bombs essentially Mint as issued. Rarely offered complete.
