Item Description
This all brass piece is 3-5/8" in dia. with a rim edge 5/16" thick. The side edges of the rim have ten holes each about 1/8" dia. and which we believe once held spokes of a wire cage. The front of the piece has a flag design bearing the company name as well as the brand name "The 'Standard.'" This "Springfield, Ohio. U.S.A." company was established in 1878 near Dayton. They first made agricultural tool castings and then bicycle parts but beginning in 1897 entered the new market for electric desk, ceiling, oscillating and ventilating fans. They also entered the business of manufacturing small motors known in the industry as factional motors. Small evidence of wear but no significant damage. An unusual and early name plate. See fan advertising poster stamp #580. Morry Greener Collection.
