Item Description
11.25x14" thin cardboard for horse naming contest. c. early 1950s. Sign states $1,000 cash prize to "Name This Horse!" Gleason Publications. States that full details and entry forms could be obtained through "Black Diamond Western, Crime Does Not Pay, Daredevil, Crime And Punishment, Boy Comics" titles. Gleason was behind the first and most successful crime comic, Crime Does Not Pay (1942), which spawned dozens of imitators. Gleason's titles (along with those produced by EC Comics) became targets of increasing criticism after "Seduction Of The Innocent" was published. Gleason was a founding member of the ACMP which was the first step towards the establishment of the Comics Code Authority in 1954. Corner tip wear, upper right corner has .25" chip missing. Lower left corner break has archival tape repair on reverse. Mild aging to margins but overall VF. Scarce.
