Item Description
2.5" tall heavy cast piece designed like hot air balloon has attached strips of colored paper with two small wires at bottom holding small cork piece as the passenger basket. Only one wire is still attached to the basket. Other is loose but could be reattached w/glue. Most likely there were three wires originally as there are three attachment points at bottom of balloon. Side with white colored paper has 1-5/8" wide lt. blue ink “Art Clokey” signature. An actual prop from the original NBC series that ran from 1965 to 1968 as “Adventures Of Gumby”. Front has attached gold foil sticker with printed text “Gumby Prop”. Just to left of signature is .25" shallow dent, trace of lt. dust soil but overall VF. Art Clokey (1921-2010) helped popularize stop motion clay animation. His student film "Gumbasia" in 1955 was an homage to Walt Disney’s "Fantasia" and led the President of the Motion Picture Association to finance the pilot film for what became "The Gumby Show" in 1957. The character was created by Clokey and his wife Ruth and first appeared on the Howdy Show. Comes with Hake’s COA and Paul Francis of the Lucas Francis Studio LOA. Unique.
