Item Description
First title is “Mother Goose In A New Dress” (on front cover) with text “Mother Goose’s Melodies” on title page 1870. By Janette Chase. 9.5x10 5/8" with gold embossed front cover title and 36 pages with wonderful chromo lithograph art printed throughout. The artist and compiler was the daughter of Lincoln’s Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase. She created the book for his 62nd birthday present and book was later commercially published. Covers have color rubs around edges with small bits of missing spine cover in 1.25" area. Blank frontispiece page has ink inscription from December 25, 1872 and second ink inscription from August 27, 1972. Overall cover is VG, contents Fine/VF. Second title is “Mother Goose Complete” 6 7/8x9" hardcover with 288 pages including five chromo lithograph plates. Book is published by A. L. Burt c.early 1900s. Covers have color rubs around edges with scattered lt. surface wear. First blank inside page is missing and pages have some lt. dust soil here and there. VG overall but complete with all five color plates. Third title is 7.75x9.75" “Favorite Rhymes Of Mother Goose” ©1910, 1923 by Cupples & Leon nicely illustrated throughout by M.L. Kirk including color plates. Covers have wear around edges, front cover color plate is faded and is missing bit of surface paper at bottom. Frontispiece is loose but book is complete and VG overall. Nice group of Mother Goose titles with wonderful graphics.
