Item Description
Gold on cream 8.25" ribbon with stickpin on reverse.  Bunker Hill Day celebrates June 17, 1775 events of Revolutionary War.  This item is from the 1890 era.  At Bunker Hill, Putnam was a primary figure.  Some credit him with the phrase "Don't Fire Until You See The Whites Of Their Eyes."  Full text of ribbon reads "Bunker Hill Day/Celebration Hartford, Conn/June 1894/Amoskeag Veterans/Worcester Continentals/Putnam Phalanx."  Tiny text at bottom of center oval reads "He Dared To Lead Where Others Dared To Follow."  This refers to an event in 1742 when he entered a den to kill the last wolf in Connecticut that for years had decimated farmers' flocks.  Detailed center engraving shows him in military uniform resting arm on cannon.
