Item Description
Two page typewritten letter on two separate 8.5x11" sheets. First sheet is on his illustrated Ray “Bradbury Enterprises” letterhead with art image of elaborate interior of building. Letter is dated April 22, 2002 addressed to “Barnaby” (author Barnaby Conrad, Director of Santa Barbara Writers Conference). Bradbury refers to Hal Foster as a pivotal influence in his life and talks about how he collected his wonderful Tarzan strips when he was 12 years old and still has them put away. He mentions breaking into tears when he received a Tarzan reprint book with Foster Sundays and they matched the ones he owned. He goes on to say “When I was 27 I sent My First Book, Dark Carnival, To Harold Foster With A Love Letter, Telling How Much His Work Had To Do With My Life. His Response Was To Send Me Two Huge Original Prince Valiant Sunday Panels” and goes on to say they were cherished gifts in his life. Second sheet is in regular stationery and has a computer generated “Ray” signature that has been gone over by Ray in his hand with black Sharpie done because of personal nature of letter. Two horizontal folds as mailed with a few lt. handling creases but otherwise Near Exc. appearance. Wonderful content from an important writer about his love for an important comic strip artist.
