Item Description
10.5x13.75" published by Keppler & Schwarzmann New York. Includes volume 20 #495 September 1, 1886 through volume 20 #520 February 23, 1887. 442 pages along with index of articles and cartoons. Each is a weekly issue with 16 pages with choice litho full color front and back covers and centerfold along with several black and white cartoons and humorous commentary. Artists include Frederick Opper, Joseph Keppler, C.J. Taylor. Wonderful images include Uncle Sam, The Statue of Liberty, and numerous political figures of the day. Topics include evolution, government management of money, socialism, communism, and freedom of the press. Binding is very loose and spine covering has split with a few pieces missing. Several pages have small tears and Dec. 22, 1886 issue is missing four pages and has large piece gone from colored centerfold. Scattered moisture marks and some dust soil here and there. Despite problems, most issues are Good/VG. Interesting and historic insight covering several subjects which would be relevant today. Choice graphics throughout. Additional photos online.
