Item Description
A narrow brass ring with loop at the top is suspended by the apparently original 24" brass link chain. Each side of the piece has a slightly convex glass cover with its outer edge nicely beveled. The front shows a light contrast but perfectly clear photographic portrait of McKinley. The reverse with much stronger contrast shows photo of Roosevelt in military uniform with crossed sabers and "U.S.V." clearly visible on the front of his hat. Around the top edge of the photo there is a little gray discoloration and at extreme top left edge a couple of tiny lines which are an internal fracture of the glass but no glass is missing and there is no actual crack. While there are numerous TR in Rough Rider outfit button designs this is the only wearable item we can recall seeing which includes a real photo of TR in uniform. The item does not carry any maker's mark and perhaps was custom made and therefore unique.
