14x17 1/8" shrink-wrapped poster has two nice photos of Satchel Paige in Indian’s uniform. He is shown with Bob Feller in left photo with both looking at baseballs. Right photo features him practicing pitching as manager Bill Veeck on crutches looks on. Caption includes “Satch Is A Big-Leaguer Now. Leroy Satchel Paige, Negro Pitcher Who Has Been Mowing Down Opposing Batsmen In The Top Negro Leagues For Years And Years, And Who Was Named As Big-League Material For A Long Time, Is Now A Big-Leaguer. He Signed With The Cleveland Indians A Few Days Ago”. Top of poster has text promoting Pittsburgh, PA Radio Station WPGH and bottom has text promoting program “Bedlam With Balfe”. Poster was part of a series created for offices/factories to post at bulletin boards and time clocks for employees enjoyment and benefit. Lower right corner of photo area has logo “Dispatch Photo News Service, Inc. NY". Bottom portion of poster has bit of lt. dust soil with a few minor handling creases. Image area is Exc. At 42, Paige was the oldest rookie to play major league baseball. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
