1988. 6.75x9.75" stiff art paper has 4.25x5.75" area with nice ink image of smiling Woody Woodpecker with autograph "To Charlie Roberts Walter Lantz 1988". Comes with 5x5-7/8" glossy photo of smiling Lantz at office desk surrounded by characters including Woody, Knothead and Splinter, Andy Panda, Chilly Willy, Oswald Rabbit, Beaky Buzzard, and Wally Walrus. Upper left has nice 1.5x2.25" inscription in gold ink "To Charlie Roberts With Best Wishes Walter Lantz". Art paper has a few tiny creases at top and bottom in blank area but image and autograph are Exc. Photo has two lt. handling creases near top just visible in reflected light. VF+. Nice pair to frame together. Walter Lantz (1899-1994) began his career at the age of 16 working on Jerry On The Job at the John Bray Studios and directed his first cartoon which he also starred in Dinky Doodle. He moved to Hollywood in 1927 where he worked briefly for director Frank Capra and was a gag writer for Mack Sennett comedies. He became director on Oswald The Lucky Rabbit cartoon series for Universal in 1928 and went on to greater fame with Andy Panda in 1939. Woody Woodpecker debuted in an Andy Panda short in 1940.
