Item Description
This 1930s club was sponsored by Goudey Gum. This lot consists of 3.25” felt patch with baseball design bearing his name and surrounding text “Knot Hole/League Of America.” Patch is N. Mint. This comes with a brochure which is 3-7/16x6.25” closed and open 10x12.25”. Front cover has the felt patch logo design with text “This Emblem Is The Pride And Joy Of Every Real American Boy.” Interior includes 5 bluetone photos with text “Lou Gehrig President/Knot Hole League Of America/By Arrangement With Christy Walsh.” When partially opened, the brochure displays text in a certificate-like form enumerating the 12 points of the club’s purpose including text stating one member of The Knot Hole League will be taken as a guest to “The Big League All Star Games Will Be Played In July, (possibly at the Century of Progress in Chicago)” thus dating this piece to 1933 or 1934. When the folder is completely opened, one side shows 17 different premiums including pictures which include Babe Ruth and National League and American League All Stars. In addition there are gloves, balls and hat with the latter mostly including the Knot Hole logo. Premiums were obtained with “Big League” gum wrappers but text also states “Sports Kings Wrappers Are Good For Any Of These Premiums.” Very st. dust soil, minor and primarily on the back cover when the sheet is completely folded. Condition overall is VF. A rare pair.
