Item Description
13.25x17-5/8” wood frame has archival mat with 7/8x12-3/8” opening revealing wonderful lndia ink original art from “Outdoor Sports” series. Six men are warmly dressed and complaining about the weather and their location in the press box with 3 ball players on the field in bkg. Art is autographed at lower left in ink “To My Ole Pal Harry Stevens Tad.” One word balloon in cartoon refers to Harry Stevens who was a concessionaire and is credited with Tad as coining the term “Hot Dog.” Thomas “Tad” Dorgan was a noted early 20th century cartoonist but was also inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2007 in the category of observer because of his boxing illustrations. Note: See Tad book trio and original art item #2097. Art is lightly tanned around extreme margin edges. Word balloon with mention of Harry Stevens is a bit faded. Fine, but displays great as professionally framed and matted. Well drawn and funny. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
