Item Description
13x21.75” wood frame has 11.75x20.25” opening with archival mat. Mat has two openings. Left is 6x8.5” with 5.5x7-7/8” scorecard with nice photo of 11 member team in full uniform sitting on stadium seats with baseball equipment in foreground. Scorecard is held in place by clear acetate tabs. Just below photo is printed text of those shown. Includes Kelley, Abbott, J.M. Bright Manager, Jackson, Galloway and Best on top row. Bottom row includes Gordon, Williams, Bradley, Pop Watkins Captain, Satterfield, Wallace, Sampson. Mat opening on right is 3.25x5.75” holding actual die-cut ticket (tag) for “Cuban Giants Vs. Canaseraga Sept. 20, 1909” game. Reverse side of frame has photocopies of reverse side of scorecard with players’ names printed at left and points through 6th inning. Photocopy of reverse side of ticket has text “I Paid My Way, Did You?” J.M. Bright (1855-1913) was owner and manager of the Cuban Giants black baseball team from 1887 through 1909 and also acted as general manager, booking agent and road manager. They played an average of 139-149 games every season. Scorecard has 1” vertical tear at top and bottom margins, upper left and lower right corners have lt. creasing. Right side margin has a few tiny moisture marks. VG. Ticket has trace of lt. dust soil and very minor edge wear. Fine. Scarce items for a great baseball team. Ready for display.
