Item Description
8-5/8x35.25” wood frame has 7-1/8x33.75” opening revealing wonderful photo of 25 players and one coach in full uniform standing on field with crowded stadium in bkg. Players’ names and positions are noted beneath their image. At far right is Rogers Hornsby “2nd Baseman And Manager.” Lower left has photo credit “Sievers.” The St. Louis Cardinals 1925 season was the team’s 44th in St. Louis, MO and 34th in the National League. The Cardinals went 77-76 during the season and finished 4th in the National League. Early in the 1925 season 2nd baseman Rogers Hornsby was named player-manager of the Cardinals replacing Branch Rickey. Immediately after taking over, Hornsby told his players “Let’s Cut This Baloney And Just Play Ball.” They went 64-51 the rest of the way. The 1925 season would also result in Hornsby’s second Triple Crown. He combined for a 403 batting average with 39 home runs and 143 RBI’s. He was named the National League’s Most Valuable Player. His .756 slugging percentage that year is the highest in the National League during the 20th century. Photo has scattered wear with 2 heavy vertical creases/cracks at center. Lower right corner is missing a .5 x 1" triangular piece, partially removing Hornsby's name/title, but a replacement piece has been added. Still displays nicely as framed. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA. Ready for display. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
