Item Description
2.25” litho for event titled “Illinois Rally For Civil Rights/Soldier Field, June 21, 1964” with circle accent reading “I Care/I’ll Be There.” Litho has some tiny scattered rubs but overall button remains extremely Fine. This rally was to support the 1964 Civil Rights bill pending in the Senate. The act ended up passing 2 days prior to this demonstration and exactly one year after John Kennedy proposed it. The rally drew 75,000 people and included James Farmer, James Forman, Senator Paul Douglas, Mahalia Jackson and Martin Luther King who spoke. Mayor Daley of Chicago was absent explaining he needed to be with his family on Father’s Day. Only our second example.
