Item Description
Two different models were produced by Emerson in 1938-1939. The standard radio has an overall size of 5.5x7.25x7.5” tall whereas this larger deluxe model has expanded length of 10.75”. Both have wood bodies with same design on front in high relief of Snow White and the Dwarfs in front of their cottage. On this deluxe version, the cottage is extended to the right to include steps and doorway as well as tree. Doorway opening has glass and behind this is face plate for “Kilocycles/Meters” along with Emerson name. On this model, the simulated acorn tuning and volume knobs are on either side of the steps whereas on the smaller model they are on the actual Dwarf figures. We have seen the smaller model in both natural brown wood and fully painted (a painted version is shown for catalogue purposes only to give you an idea of the differences between the two, not included as part of this lot). Both versions of the radio are rare, however this deluxe model is much rarer than the standard model and in fact the only time we’ve offered it in our 44 years. The cottage window opening has intact speaker cloth. Re-wired and has new antenna cord. Three of the tubes have broken/missing glass but vintage replacements could be obtained. Also missing the plain wood panel back cover. Top left corner edge and underside front edge have repairs to hairlines in the wood. Wood body shows moderate scattered wear and aging. One knob has .5” hairline crack. Despite the noted defects, appearance still remains quite nice for display. Displays as Fine. From the Michael J. Stern Collection.
