Item Description
9x11x5” tall sturdy pressed cardboard with attached inner band with “Space Patrol Solar Helmet By Bailey Of Hollywood” text. c. 1950s. Front design includes “Space Patrol” name, rocketship, planets and stars. Five accent ridges wrap around center of the helmet while on top is small raised dome. Inner band is held in place by red metal grommets, also has grommets on back of band where a string could be attached to tighten to fit child’s head. Original store price sticker on inside. Slightest trace of wear, tiny color rubs on the small raised “dome” on top but appearance is exceptionally bright and clean. Exc. This is the only example we have seen, this very item was originally offered by us in 2003 in Auction #173 where it sold for $440. Rare. A similar (and equally rare) style pith helmet was also produced for Space Patrol.
