Item Description
Downs began as a child actor playing Johnny in Our Gang between 1923 and 1926. He remained in the business and this button dates from the 1950s when he hosted a San Diego after-school kids TV show titled “The Johnny Downs Show.” Button has the text “Johnny Downs Club” and has the call letters of the TV station which changed to KOGO in 1961. He is pictured wearing a hat reading “Howdy Howdy Howdy” and there is a large image of his sponsor’s product “Town Talk” bread. Couple of trivial hairlines in reflected light. N. Mint and displays Mint. Only example we’ve seen of this rare local club button.
