Item Description
6.25x8” complete album consists of 12 stiff paper pages plus matching front/back covers. Issued in 1888. These souvenir albums were obtained by redeeming coupons packed with cigarettes. Album features images from card set “Racing Colors Of The World.” Each page features 4 or 5 images of attractive women as jockeys representing well-known stables from all over the world, ten countries are represented with US accounting for 20 designs. Each jockey is depicted wearing brightly colored racing clothes set against soft tone bkg. Each page features additional related images that tie the pictures together and include horseshoes, saddles, bridles, etc. Page backs are blank. Features additional choice color art on front and back covers, inside covers include cigarette company information. Has original binding string although this is loose from the album. Front cover has noticeable dust soiling, scattered margin wear, small piece missing from one of the binder holes, 1.5” sliver from bottom left corner. Top left also has .5x1” spot of missing surface paper although mostly from the plain white bkg. Back cover has wear with small corner piece missing. Covers VG. Pages have lt. scattered corner tip wear, noticeable dust soiling on the first page but are Fine to VF. Exceptional art and choice color. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
