Item Description
This is one of three different 2-1/8” designs issued c. 1900 apparently distributed to those attending a Shriner’s fraternal convention in Troy, N.Y. Depicted is a camel wearing a Shriner’s fez and also the company’s shirt collar accented by a small bow tie. An apparent lodge initiate wearing one of the company’s nightshirts hangs on by grasping the camel’s halter. Missing the backpaper which displayed the company’s trademark and the name of the maker W&H. Button surface is just the slightest concave and the extreme outer rim edge has tiny traces of tan aging but hardly visible. About 5 times scarcer than the version of this button depicting the camel lying down. Our last example back in Auction #186, without stain and with backpaper, realized over $500. This example is still in fine condition and displays beautifully.
