Item Description
4.5x6” on card stock with deckled edge. Choice art on front, back is blank. Until just a few years ago, this card was unknown and the 1931 card was assumed to be the first studio card. However, we now know this to be the first studio card and it is just one of two known examples in the hobby. Superb art by Floyd Gottfredson. Mickey is depicted outside playing the piano as snow falls around him. In front of piano is sign reading “Now Playing A Silly Symphony.” Snow-covered houses appear further in the distance with full moon in the bkg. Above Mickey on an awning is an Ignatz-like mouse about to push a large snowball on top of Mickey. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first Gottfredson art we know of to have been printed in color. Card shows moderate wear and aging mostly to margins including some tanning, small corner creases and faint moisture stain at lower right. Art remains bold and bright. Technically, card grades VG, however, art remains Exc. A true rarity and a must-have item for any serious collector of Disneyana.
