Item Description
First is 13.5x16” image area in a 21x23.25” frame. Tiny text bottom right dated 12-2-19. Caption below image explains “Long Haired Pitcher Sought By Cubs/The House Of David/A Strange Religious Colony In Michigan, Produced This Remarkable Ball Team…Mooney, Their Star Pitcher, Has Learned How To ‘Curl ‘Em Over’ So Well That The Cubs Want Him In Chicago…These Boys Are Easy Winners – They Never Had A ‘Close Shave’ Yet.” Paul Mooney was the House of David’s pitcher from 1914-1926. Never signed with Cubs as he would not cut his hair as they requested. Photo credit from Underwood & Underwood. Repeated vertical lt. creases (likely from being rolled) are seen under close inspection. Not offensive. Framed and ready for display. VF. Lot also includes two 3.5x5.5” real photo postcards. Backs have same text “Eden Springs, House of David, Benton Harbor, Mich., U.S.A./Send For Literature.” One team photo with text below “House of David (traveling) Baseball Team.” Other photo has players posing with dog. Bkg. shows scoreboard that reads “H of D/Visitors.” c. 1920s. Lt. wear but unused, clean & glossy. VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
