Item Description
Pair of 6.5x10” publications with 16 pages each. Issued to stores selling Brown Shoe Company products. Vol. 5, #12 published Dec., 1910 features Christmas cover with 2 urchins looking in window showing Christmas tree and Buster Brown-like character looking at Buster Brown Shoes. Vol. 6, #2 published Feb., 1911 features Washington Birthday-themed cover with portrait of Washington above fireplace as elderly Confederate and Union soldiers reminisce. Both feature Buster Brown/White House Shoes content plus photos of store interiors, selling hints etc. Last page of each featuring Buster Brown-related premiums for stores to give out. Items including novelty triangular coin purses, Buster Brown paper cap, handy pocket slate, “cricket” clickers as well as “Buster Brown Blue Ribbon Shoe” pocket watches, one with “BBS” engraved fob, other with fob showing image of Buster Brown and Tige with shoe. Great advertising die-cut display showing Buster Brown is pictured in each, Feb., 1911 issue has nice Washington’s birthday display showing Buster Brown images on sides. Scattered handling wear with noticeable insect damage to upper left margin of front cover of 1911 issue. 1910 issue has cover pinches,lt. creasing. Pair Fine overall. Lot also comes with an original 7x10.5” mailing envelope with “The White House Message – The Brown Shoe Company” return address that was mailed to Tunnelhill Ohio store. Moderate wear from mailing with tears and creases. VG. Also included in lot are two 9.75x25.25” double-sided ad sheets for “The Brown Shoe Co’s Red Letter List” for Dec., 1910 and Feb., 1911.
