Item Description
Lot of 5 Christmas cards measuring between 3.25x5.5” and 4.25x5.5”. All c. 1950s. One card has inked date within. All feature bird and music motif. Varying degrees of handling wear with pinch creases and scattered dust soiling. Fine-Exc. overall. Comes with 5.5x8.5” c. early 1960s announcement card listing upcoming performers that include: Count Basie, Toshiko-Mariano Quartet, Buddy Rich, Horace Silver Quintet, “Cannonball” Adderley Quintet, The Afro-Jazziacs, Maynard Ferguson, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Russo and John Coltrane Quintet. Birdland was a jazz club started in New York City in Dec., 1949 and was owned by Morris Levy, Irving Levy and Charlie Parker whose nickname was “Bird,” securing the club’s name as Parker was the club’s headliner. Scattered aging at margins with st. curl. VF. All items are scarce. A great group for this legendary jazz venue. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
