Item Description
9.75x12.5” folder with embossed “Romeo And Juliet” film title name contains 8.75x11.75” program with 48 bw pages. Released in conjunction with George Cukor’s 1936 film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic play in which Leslie Howard played Romeo and Norma Shearer played Juliet. Film received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Art Direction. For Los Angeles, premiere, a somber event as MGM producer Irving Thalberg and husband of Norma Shearer died on that very night, Sep. 14, 1936. Given the L.A. premiere location, there are numerous ads for L.A. businesses, some with references to Romeo And Juliet film including “Juliette” footwear , back cover has printed text for western costume company providers of “*Costumes For ‘Romeo And Juliet’” and several congratulatory ads placed for the film. Seven pages of film-related content including numerous bw photos and text summaries. Program is loose from cover with .25x.5” tears where staples originally held it in place. 1” tear to top of spine. VG with VF/Exc. contents.
