16x20” mat contains original pen and ink/charcoal art titled “The Lift.” Art depicts stereotypical Japanese soldier hitchhiking with “Japan” suitcase in hand. Soldier appeals to truck with “Truck Strike” written on side. Art is by Chicago Daily News cartoonist Shoemaker and ran Jun. 21, 1945. Art has been mounted to 12x14.5”. Displays Exc. 15.75x20” mat contains pen and ink/charcoal art titled “Buttoned Up!” by Washington Post cartoonist LeBaron Coakley and depicts “Petty Official Orator” with lip buttoned “By Order Of FDR” in front of radio microphone script in hand reads “We Are Losing The War Because Blah-Blah-Blah.” Deals with petty officials disparaging war efforts and FDR ordering them to cease. Cartoon ran Oct. 5, 1942. Exc. 16.5x20” mat contains pen and ink art for “So Long – Sarge” art by Portland Oregonian cartoonist Ralph Lee. Depicted is student leaving “school” and addressing anthropomorphic book soldier “I’m On Leave To Help On The Homefront.” Dealt with high school students leaving school to help out on the homefront. c. early 1940s.
