Item Description
1-3/8" (34mm) brass coat button complete with its original shank on the reverse. Listed as DeWitt/Sullivan GW1789-9 and known as the "Link States" design. Center has large "GW" initials in script enclosed by the circular inscription "Long Live The President." The slogan is encircled by an endless chain of 13 oval links, each enclosing the initials of one of the original 13 states. What is most unusual about this example, overall a gorgeous chocolate brown color, is the remaining brighter brass luster. There are very small traces of luster showing on the state initials and a few links plus a little more obvious around the initials "GW," and much luster showing strongly as the bkg. color around the slogan "Long Live The President." This is the first example of this design we've ever seen with visible original luster. An outstanding and Exc. example of the "Link States" design which is exceedingly popular because it includes his initials, initials of the 13 states and a great slogan.
