Item Description
Lot of twenty 9" dia. vitreous china plates by Edwin M. Knowles China Co., also marked "All Rights Reserved Star Players Photo Co. Chicago." c. 1920. Plates feature nice sepia-toned images of silent film actors and actresses of the day with color tints added to cheeks and lips. Facsimile signatures appear below images. Plates have gold accent bands at edges and again surrounding photo images. Floral band design. From a series of an unknown amout, we know of at least 21 different designs. See Charlie Chaplin plate #1292. Some stars include - Anita Stewart, Francis X. Bushman, Marguerite Snow, Alice Brady, Maurice Costello, Lottie Pickford, Lillian Walker and others. Normal and typical all-over craze lines and scattered moderate aging to white areas. Two plates have tiny 1/8" chips to rims and another with 1/8x.5" chip to rim. Carlyle Blackwell plate has heavy aging to white areas. Plates are Fine overall. From scarce set.
