Item Description
1-1/8" tall with stickpin reverse beautifully constructed as a tin box replicating a Civil War backpack. Pair of brass bands at top hold a red wooden cylinder representing a bed roll. Front of the knapsack is complete with depiction of embossed straps and buckles flanking the inscription "US." The lid of the knapsack opens to reveal a crisp and clear stiff cardboard photo of Harrison. The piece is likely c. 1888. Tin area once was apparently covered in metallic blue with traces remaining on the sides and back but front cover is largely gray metal although embossed with a pebbly surface to simulate leather. Paint on the bed roll at top is Mint. An unlisted and wonderful mechanical pin, first we've seen. Exc.
