Item Description
1950s. Large 16x24" tin base with 7.5x22" building rising to 12" tall at top of control tower/search light. Original box is plain corrugated cardboard. Flattened and has heavy wear, moisture stains, creases and tape residue. Good. Interesting design with many functions/accessories. Front of building features arched entranceway with green plastic revolving door which is somewhat warped but still works. On either side of this entrance is a hangar and a garage for fire trucks. This garage was designed to shoot the trucks out with a release latch although this no longer functions. Roof of waiting room/hangar buildings has great design of people watching the planes on observation deck and controllers on microphone,. Two clocks on front of building have movable hands. Plastic accessories include a fire truck and fuel truck with rubber hoses. Fuel truck hose has hardened and broken, rescue truck hose is still pliable. Also has a gray plastic airport bus, stop sign and two passenger airplanes. These airplanes have holes at top and plungers in rear to enable you to pretend to put oil or fuel in and also remove it. There is an oil pan built into the roof where it says "Plane Service Area" as well as large red plastic working crane. Most interesting feature of this playset is the plane flying mechanisms. Small building at one end houses rod to attach the planes which have loops on top of their fuselages. This is operated by control panel at other end and planes can be made to fly in and out for landing, fly loops or circle. This works well. Runway buildings just have a few scattered paint nicks and scratches. Overall bright, glossy and very impressive. VF.
