8.50” X 11” letter from Wells & Coverly Inc., a clothing store which had a Superman-Tim store section. This letter was in conjunction with the Superman-Tim Club for Boys and is dated March 12, 1948. Very interesting and unusual content is as follows: “To my friend Robert Donegan whose birthday is March 19th! I’ve a birthday present for you … from my store and from me. A real Birthday Pie … a thick, juicy one that just melts in your mouth. All you have to do is tell me you will come in for it, and I’ll do the rest. “WRITE RIGHT AWAY!” I’ll order your pie the minute I hear from you … then YOU BE SURE to come to my store and get it, on Friday afternoon. Your friend, -Tim Wishes you MANY Happy Birthdays.” Background red tone image of Superman flying across letter shows Superman without cape. Letter has been folded twice for mailing and has some light aging as well as a heavy crease running vertically through letter where letter was folded in envelope. Comes with 4” X 9.50” envelope with “Superman-Tim” logo and red Superman image above Wells & Coverly Inc. address. Envelope is addressed to recipient of letter and post marked March 12, 1948. Envelope is missing 2.50” of reverse flap, tear 2.50” from left and has yellowing at crease that corresponds with crease on letter. ¾” tear by post mark and a vertical crease at extreme right margin which breaks surface paper of stamp. Envelope is FN with a VF letter. Unusual item and first we’ve seen with envelope.
