Item Description
First five of these are 3.5” and the last is 3”. The first for McCovey has “MLB” logo and some fading of the orange rim, much all over front surface wear and a heavy layer of brown oxidation over the reverse. Still displays well and with gloss. Second is dated for “May 1979” and reads in part “S.F. Press Club Testimonial.” This one has spotting around his portrait with two long and rather deep scratches at the lower right which are visible. Additional spotting on the orange background. Still with gloss. Last for him has text “N.L. Grand Slam King/1977 Comeback Player Of The Year.” Front is covered in tiny dots that seem to be in the acetate composition but these are just seen in reflected light and with normal viewing the button still displays Mint. First for Mays includes “M.V.P. 1965.” Moderate scratching along with one most noticeable in reflected light about 1” long horizontally partially crossing his face. Button still displays well. Next is full color button of him and naming “New York Mets.” Reverse of this has a fold out easel as well as a pin. Last was issued for “The Willie Mays Golf Classic” and also names “E. St. Louis Charity Day And Homecoming At The Races/Fairmount Race Track.” A few very small darker age dots on the cello but these are very minimal and the piece still displays VF and glossy. Six scarce to rare buttons. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
